I Make My Case

April 16th, 2010 by Julie Hill

So, in addition to daily photos of his in-progress workspace, Chuck Anderson has been Twittering non-stop about some Casemate thing, and I finally checked it out. Holy moly, I Make My Case was way more awesome than I was ready for, design- and function-wise.

Design It!

Casemate has gathered an awesome selection of illustrators, who in turn have created custom designs for iPod, iPhone and Blackberry cases that you can buy. BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE. The artists have also provided elements for you to design your own case in their style. Yes. Now YOU can make that Deanne Cheuk design just so

Design Elements

The full list of artists to choose from (if you can) is: Chuck Anderson, Nigel Evan Dennis, Deanne Cheuk, Hannah Stouffer, Ray Frenden, Thomas Hooper, Anthony Yankovic, Shadow Chen, Joshua Davis and Matt W. Moore.

Nige

Tragically, I don’t own a single device that these cases are fitted for. BLAST MY LATE ADOPTERISM. But you better believe when I do catch up with everyone else, I will be snagging one of these.

Icycle

February 5th, 2010 by Julie Hill

Brrrrr

Imagine yourself naked and cold, with only a tiny bicycle to help you navigate a post-apocalyptic world, and you have the excellently stylish Flash game Icycle.

“The next ice age has arrived and the world as we know it has peacefully frozen in time, but to one naked survivor it’s cold and lonely as hell!

Icycle is a contemporary take on a RETRO style bike game which challenges your skill and memory. Trial and error will pave the way but remembering the path might prove harder than you expect. Collect as many bubbles as possible but be prepared for plenty of amusing fatalities along the way.

If only dying was this much fun in life!”

I missed you.

November 12th, 2009 by Julie Hill

Craigslist’s Missed Connections is a we-shared-a-moment, hope-I-see-you-again posting service that ranges from touching, to hilarious, to sad, to downright creepy.

Why you drinkin' milkshakes, skinny hipster boy?

Illustrator Sophie Blackall has taken a collection of these bottled messages and created a truly lovely collection of drawings. Please go look at them all.

Where do Fail Whales Come From?

October 28th, 2009 by admin

It is said the Fail Whale comes from faraway Fail Seas, and migrates yearly to the warm waters of WTF to frolic and mate with other cetacean-loser species.

Why, from Sydney-based illustrator Yiying Lu, of course! Read a great interview with her here.

Thanks for the tip, Kendall Bruns.

Tiny Art Director

October 12th, 2009 by admin

Imagine, if you will, your illustration project going like this:

There are generally so many issues with the creative that the Tiny Art Director doesn't know where to start, so she just tears it up and demands a juice box.

The Brief: A dinosaur in a X-Ray
The Critique: I just want to see a little mousey in his tummy
Job Status: Approved (after addition of mousey)
Additional Comments: That’s what kind of bones dogs like to chew on. Dinosaur leg bones.

Deanne Cheuk

July 20th, 2009 by admin

Illustration dweebs like myself have had crushes on Deanne Cheuk for a long time, I just love her graceful, chaotic, feminine illustration style. She was an art director at Tokion back when I had a subscription, and has been kicking ass ever since. Deanne has launched a new website, but thanks to the great-concept-but-oops-this-actually-doesn’t-work-so-well-yet platform that is Squarespace, I can’t view any of the work. But never fear! Design*Sponge to the rescue, delivering a nice little collection of her work for you.
